Older creation, but I haven't submitted anything in a while.
Measuring two to three stories high, the Great Horned Beasts of South America keep to themselves. Very quiet and placid are the massive creatures. They lumber around by use of their rear legs, their small arms of no use to put any weight on. Herbivores, the Great Horned Beasts favorite dinner is a feast on the brances of the Capirona tree as the tree's dense wood provides substantial energy for the usually non-moving creatures. Unfortunately, their numbers have dwindled due to illegal poaching. On the black market, the Great Horned Beast's facial horns go for about 1000 USD a piece, the central horn going for close to 8000 USD and an entire antler for 25,000 USD as the antlers are the most difficult to obtain fully intact. Both male and female have antlers, though the female's are significantly smaller and fetch a lesser price. The antlers' size usually indicates the age of the creature and the beast only ever grows one set in its life. Originally made for COW 58 [link] |
